This GIF set was officially released by the studio as a poster.

I love watching the world change.

This, by the way, is the kind of digital work that more agencies and brand should be looking for: something that feels like art, that serves a purpose, and that doesn’t just copy an offline medium, but extends it.

Gif posters, cinemagraphs, personalization, these are ideas that let digital be more about art, and less about optimization. I feel like we, as an industry, have leaned too far in one direction for too long.

Stuff like this is a good first step.

legislators are busy making sure that no interventionist local politicians will ever have the power to limit access to obesogenic foodstuffs, or to force the disclosure of the calorie count of menu items.

The text of “The Anti-Bloomberg Bill” (actual name) includes the following:

Bars counties and towns from passing laws requiring restaurants to post the calorie counts of food, as they must do in New York City.

Bars caps on portion sizes, a la Bloomberg’s attempt to ban large sodas that was just struck down by a judge.

Prevents rules that keep toys out of kids’ meals, such as McDonald’s Happy Meals.

The bill sailed through Mississippi’s House, with 50 to 1 in favor, and Senate, with a vote of 92-6, and it’s expected that Governor Phil Bryant will sign it. Lobbyists for the bill included the state Restaurant Association, and a coalition of agribusiness chicken farmers.

Forty-four percent of children in Mississippi are overweight or obese, as are seven in ten adults. And Mississippi may be the canary in the coal mine: Last year, doctors declared that obesity is now a bigger health crisis than hunger.”

And it took the state 130+ years to ban slavery. Hmm.

According to researchers from Brigham Young University, low social interaction has the equivalent lifespan impact as smoking 15 cigarettes daily, or being a raging alcoholic. Cutting yourself off from others is worse, even, than inactivity. And twice as bad as obesity. So, you better start making friends.

The thing I’ve always found confusing about discussions of Big Data is the way people are so active in trying to limit how companies can use that information, but there’s a complete lack of conversation as to how law enforcement, the military, and other government organizations can use that data.

When Google invades your privacy, you get targeted advertising. When Target does it, you get targeted advertising. When criminals do it, you get identity theft. When the government can do it very easily, the stakes go up, considerably.

Worth considering when we start talking about legislating privacy, redefining privacy, or embracing a world without privacy.

It’s so easy thinking just about the small picture.

Coca-Cola won’t say how it makes its best-selling Simply Orange orange juice, but one thing is for sure: It’s not so simple. A new investigation by Bloomberg Businessweek shows that the Coke-owned orange juice brand that’s billed as less processed version of Tropicana is in fact a hyper-engineered and dauntingly industrial product. The factory in Florida where the bulk of Coke’s orange juice products are made sounds less like a bucolic grove where natural things grow than an oil refinery where natural things go to die. And yes, that includes the “Grove Made” variety.
